ENGINE MAINTENANCE

Engine maintenance is vital to keep your car or truck operating at peak performance. It also impacts the longevity of your vehicle's engine. Trust the experts at GPR Automotive to help you protect your investment. Call us at 847-230-0242 or visit our shop in Schaumburg 60193.

These are some of the engine maintenance services we offer.

Diesel
Although diesel engines don't require tune-ups and tend to last longer than gasoline engines, they do require regular maintenance. Typical maintenance tasks include:

  • Changing the oil & filter
  • Changing the air filter
  • Changing the fuel filter
  • Bleeding the fuel system
  • Draining the water separators
  • Refilling the urea injection system

You can count on the experts at GPR Automotive to help your diesel engine last a long time.

Fuel Injection
Fuel injection is a system for admitting fuel into an engine. Since 1990, fuel injectors have completely replaced carburetors as the primary means of getting gasoline into the engine. A fuel injector atomizes the fuel by forcibly pumping it through a small nozzle (under high pressure). Failure of the fuel injection system means poor performance and ultimately destroys the engine. Make sure your vehicle's fuel injection system is maintained properly. For all your fuel injection maintenance and replacement needs, call 847-230-0242 or visit GPR Automotive today.

Ignition
An ignition system is a system for igniting (using an electric spark) a mixture of fuel and air in a gasoline engine. A properly working ignition system means a properly starting engine and high performance from your car. For all your ignition system maintenance and replacement needs, call or visit GPR Automotive today.

Ignition Wires & Cables
Ignition cables also known as spark plug wires are an important part of your car's ignition system. They transfer the spark from the ignition coil to spark plugs that ignite the mixture of fuel and air. The mixture starts the engine. Over time, ignition wires and cables get weak and break down. This makes it impossible for the spark to reach the engine cylinders. This results in the engine misfiring. The car will eventually fail to start. If it does start, it will run poorly. Common symptoms of faulty ignition cables and wires are: poor gas mileage, engine misfires, engine light is on, and engine may vibrate. If your car needs new ignition cables and wires, call or visit GPR Automotive in Schaumburg, IL 60193. Here, you will have the wires and cables changed by a top-rated mechanic.

Spark Plugs
A spark plug delivers electric current to the combustion chamber from the ignition system. Spark plugs that haven't been changed for a long time can cause ignition problems. At GPR Automotive, we have automotive experts who will check and replace your spark plugs. For all your spark plug repair or replacement needs, call 847-230-0242 or visit GPR Automotive today.

Oil, Lube, and Filter
To keep running smoothly, your car highly relies on oil, lube, and oil filters. Oil helps in lubricating, cooling, and cleaning the internal engine components. With time, motor oil becomes contaminated. Your car needs an oil, lube, and filter change every three months (or 3,000 miles). When it is time for a lube, oil, or filter change, take your vehicle to GPR Automotive in Schaumburg, IL 60193.

Check Engine Light
No one likes to see their car's "Check Engine" light come on. The light could mean a costly problem, like a bad catalytic converter, or it could be something minor, like a loose gas cap. At GPR Automotive, we can pull the code and diagnose the problem for you. Give us a call at 847-230-0242 or stop by the shop for our expert assistance.

Testimonials

  • I've really only been writing reviews for local businesses that I feel I can support. This is one of them. Great service and very nice guys. In addition to my own truck, I've taken my girlfriends car (brakes and some suspension work) as well as my mother's minivan (new muffler and a broken Sway bar). This is one of the very, very few auto shops I've been to where I don't feel like I am being given the run around or gotten any "sleezy" vibes. Jon (the owner, I believe) is a younger guy that's super attentive and gives really good explanations as to what the issues are, what he will be doing to fix it, and the time/cost. He seems to really enjoy what he does, and it is pretty obvious once you chat with him. I felt like a "regular" customer even during my first visit. On more than one occasion, he has brought me in back to the shop to physically show me the issue on the car while writing up a repair estimate. This makes me feel much better about continuing on with a repair as I can see with my own eyes that a broken sway bar is just that. I've never felt as though I am being up-sold or pushed to complete anything that doesn't need to be repaired, which is HUGE for me. I am not a "car guy" beyond just the basics, and I don't like being led on, especially when high ticket items are involved. When my girlfriend picked up her car, she also commented on the professionalism. These guys are definitely not your old school, greasy mechanics. The waiting area isn't huge, but it is nice, clean, and doesn't smell like exhaust fumes or oil. They offer coffee and have a customer restroom (also very clean....Seriously, the only auto repair shop I've been to where this was the case). I believe they have a free courtesy car (I've not needed it, just saw it parked out in front of the building). There is some cool literature and "demo" parts out to look through while you're waiting, and they provided me with a pretty detailed service schedule just for my truck. I like to support local businesses whenever I can, and in this case, it definitely worked out in my favor. I've got a new go to auto repair shop, and I gladly recommend them if you looking for somewhere legit, priced well, and run by people that seem to really stand by their work.
